The foundation’s long-term goal is to foster sustainability on the reservation by building homes and providing education and workforce training. However, addressing immediate needs, such as firewood for the elderly during the bitterly cold winters and life-saving formula for infants, is critical to save the most vulnerable on the reservation.
DONATE TO SUSTAINABILITY
Our efforts are focused on finding sustainable solutions on Pine Ridge Reservation. Not only are we dedicated to helping the reservation with education, but we are also working to provide employment opportunities, commerce and new housing solutions – At least 60% of the homes need to be demolished and replaced due to black mold. A lack of commerce and available employment leads to the 90% unemployment rate, making it difficult for people to provide for their families. Our goal is to raise money to provide sustainable living solutions including education opportunities, jobs, and aiding in the growth of commerce on the reservation.
DONATE TO EDUCATION
We must empower our next generation through education. Through education, we can inspire our next generation to create jobs, build sustainable income, and establish a brighter future for themselves and generations to follow. We are currently funding cultural art & music classes, academic summer camps, and a scholarship program to help Pine Ridge youth on their path to academic success.
DONATE TO SUICIDE PREVENTION & TRAUMA COUNSELING
Currently, there are minimal certified counselors available. If a child needs help, it can be 6 -8 weeks before they can see a social worker. With over 900 teens suicidal in the past year, the need is great. Each new counselor we fund sees hundreds of children a year, providing them hope and direction for their future.
DONATE TO INFANT CARE
To help battle the infant mortality crisis and aid mothers in need we have launched an infant care distribution program. This program provides infant formula, diapers and baby care necessities to families in need and helps ensure infants get necessary nutrition and care. Our first distribution was in October 2016 and will continue monthly.
DONATE TO CHILDRENS HOME
The infant mortality rate on Pine Ridge Reservation is the highest on this continent, and about 300% higher than the U.S. national average. Police have nowhere to take an endangered baby until Child Protective Services can arrive, often too late. Our children’s home gives these children somewhere safe to live until a long term option is available.
DONATE A THRIVE MARKET BOX
Taking a stance to improve the health of the Sioux Tribe, True Sioux Hope Foundation and Thrive Market, a membership e-commerce platform on a mission to make healthy living easy and affordable for everyone, have created four customized boxes for families on Pine Ridge Reservation. For a $50 donation, True Sioux Hope Supporters can choose from: Staples, Low Sugar Staples, Mom and Baby Care, and Personal Health and Home Care. Each box includes best-selling healthy foods and natural wholesome products, and is delivered right to the door of a family in need on Pine Ridge Reservation.
DONATE FIREWOOD
With many homes lacking electricity, during the bitterly cold winters the elderly are susceptible to hypothermia. Something as simple as a bundle of firewood helps save a life. Our firewood program employs youth on the reservation to cut, bundle and deliver the wood while helping provide potentially lifesaving heat for the elderly.
